Do you have needs?

What?!

I can hear someone actually say that with raised eye brows and great surprise on your face. And another is saying “everyone has tons of needs Ebos.” I know darling, I have ALOT. And when we hear scriptures like “God will supply all your needs in Christ Jesus” we scream a big amen. Because we all need answers to our needs.

But there was a verse I had always read but my eyes were opened to the original meaning of that verse from a group I am part of.

Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus looked at them and said, “for mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” ” (NRSV)

Did I hear someone say Amen! When you read this verse what comes to your mind? I believe stuffs like: Rent money, a better job, a better car, increased income… And so on. My list is a mile long.

But let us look at this verse in context. I will give us the story. A young rich man starting from verse 16 came to Jesus and asked ” Teacher what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” And Jesus answers him “if you want to receive eternal life, keep the commandments.” And Jesus gave him a list of all the commandments and he said “I have obeyed all these commandments,” and Jesus told him something nobody wants to hear, I inclusive. “If you want to be perfect, go sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” The Bible tells us he went away sad the young man for he had many possessions.

Let us pause here for today and consider some things as God will help us out with this questions.

  1. How many times have you tried to figure out being righteous and holy before God by your human strength? I have a lot of times and I have never, I mean never succeeded. I have always been worse than before after such experiences.
  2. Like this young rich man what things or people have stopped you from obeying God wholeheartedly and following His ways? For the young man it was his great wealth and possessions. What is yours?
We will pause here today. Ponder on these questions.

Till next time
Ebos.
